Hello Everyone!
Welcome to One Sour Mama. I am Jess.
I found my joy in baking early on in life. I have been baking ever since I can remember with my mother. Helping her make cookies and pies and such. After I learned to read Mama bought me a children's cookbook written in the 1930's. I would look over the recipes so excited to make them. Finally, after much begging she gave in and let me start by making my first batch of Gingersnap cookies all by myself and ever since then they have been one the of the most requested cookie I make. At about age 6 I joined a breadmaking class through a local 4-H group and so my love for bread baking began…. After that I was making cinnamon rolls, potato bread, my grandmother's dinner rolls and anything else at home I could.
Baking has always been something that called my name for reasons I could not explain other than I have the worst sweet tooth of anyone you have ever met. lol Now I find that it is a one of the only ways I can really easily break free from stress and be mindful in the joy creating something that brings my family and friends together maybe not in a big way but one that is slowly losing its value and going away in our daily busy lives. A simple family meal.
Breakfast with my favorite Grandma. Coffee and muffins with a close friend. Tea and scones with my beloved mother and sisters in law. Sometimes taking time for these things can seem like a huge sacrifice out of a much-needed day but it's these little moments that we are going to remember. Also, it is these moments we regret not taking. Sometimes it is at these times we can learn the most about a person.
We live such busy lives these days sometimes these little traditions get forgotten as we gobble down that burger or salad before our meeting or that next appointment. But let us not forget it is one major thing that makes us human and one thing that we all have in common in so many parts of the world. In each family meal we share a little bit of our culture, time, respect, and love for one another.
Whether it's a well thought out turkey dinner or a quick soup and sandwich. By me taking these moments to prepare something by hand no matter how complex I can connect to my world around me and share my love with others. Not only in raising my family on important nutritional values but also the time I take to make a meal and the food I share I get to give a little something of my soul, culture, and life.
In that I hope to make someone's day just a little sweeter. 😉
